Ron: Here’s another tip for managing step-stress at the holidays. Be flexible.
Announcer: For FamilyLife Blended®, here’s Ron Deal.
Ron: This tip is especially important for newly formed stepfamilies because everyone has their ideas about what to serve at Thanksgiving and how to decorate for Christmas. You didn’t realize how firmly you held to your traditions until somebody else wants to change things, and that’s when people get stubborn. What do you mean eat ham at Thanksgiving? That’s not how we do it around here.
Being flexible means that you keep some traditions but you’re willing to modify, combine, or completely drop others. All while trying to invent new traditions for your new family. This is going to take awhile. Be patient. Be humble. Be flexible. And you’ll get there. For FamilyLife Blended I’m Ron Deal.
